Drainage work can be done any time the ground is not frozen, from spring to late fall. The best time to find the problem is right after heavy rain or snowmelt, so take photos of where the water sits and send them with your quote request. A common rule of thumb is for the ground to drop about 15 cm over the first 3 metres away from the house. If water is already coming through the basement walls, you may also need a foundation waterproofing contractor, and we will tell you honestly if that is the case.

Usually it is one or more of: the yard slopes toward the house or into a low spot, downspouts empty too close to the house, or heavy clay soil that GTA yards often have does not let water soak in fast enough. The fix depends on which one it is, which is why we look first.
A French drain is a trench filled with gravel around a perforated pipe. Water in the soil drains into the gravel, enters the pipe and is carried away to a safe spot, so a wet area of the yard dries out.
Away from the house, onto ground that slopes away, typically at least 1.5 to 2 metres from the foundation, and never onto a neighbour's property or a walkway that will ice over. Extensions can run above ground or be buried.
